SARTORY, Eugène Nicolas Born 1871 Mirecourt, died 1946 Paris France. Bow maker, recognised as one of the finest archetiers of the twentieth century, responsible for sustaining the dominant French tradition. Son and pupil of Joseph Eustache. A prodigious craftsman, he worked for C. Peccatte and A. Lamy in Paris and was established independently there from the age of 18 in 1889 at 12 boulevard Bonne-Nouvelle, moving to 13 rue du Faubourg Poissonière in 1902, and finally at 3 Trévise from 1912. By 1914 he was employing others in his shop, but the business was closed for the duration of the First World War while he was in National Service. From 1918 the shop flourished and he was delegating work
