ALEKSA, John Born 1909 Hungary, d.2000 Indianapolis, Indiana USA. Self-taught violin maker. Emigrated to USA, settling in Indianapolis from 1920. Active from 1930. Established a business in 1944, moving to Oaklandon, Indiana in 1962. Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models, using commercial varnishes. Credited with up to 80 violins, violas, and cellos. Prizewinner at Violin Society of America competition 1978. Signed internally. Manuscript label.
