Michel Eggimann

Violin maker in Rome.

Michel Egimann was born in Neuchatel in Switzerland in 1963. After studing the violin, he obtained a diploma at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona under the guidance of V. Bissolotti in 1986. In 1985, he has awarded the fourth prize for a violin at the 4th International Triennal of Cremona. In 1986, he won the Stauffer Prize for his realisation of a copy of a Guarneri del Gesù 1742. He also worked for one year in the workshop of Curtin & Alf, renowed American violin-makers operating in Cremona at this time. In 1987, he opened his first workshop in Cremona. He moved to Lucca (Tuscan) in 1991. He devotes himself almost entirely to realising copies of 18th Century Cremonese and Italian masters. He almost always uses an oil-based varnish. He moved in Rome in the beginning of 2007. His workshop is located between Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Farnese, the heart of the old city. To date, he made more than 250 instruments.
