ZASADIL, Joannes Born 1900 Vienna Austria, died 1968 Hermosa, South Dakota USA. Pupil of his uncle Vaclar Kartak from 1909. Emigrated to the USA 1916 and established in Chicago, carrying out repair work for Richard Wunderlich, John Hornsteiner, and Frank Sindelar, and specialising in cellos and double basses. Later moved to Hermosa. About 175 violins made on various Italian models, using many varieties of local timbers, several having carved heads replacing the scroll.
