WEAVER, Herman A. Born 1886 Gloucester Court House, Virginia, died 1968 Washington D.C. USA. Musician and active violin maker from 1898. Pupil of David Ruschenberg in Denver, Colorado 1903-1907. Worked for Lyon & Healy in Chicago under John Hornsteiner 1907-1910. Then for J. A. Krug in Detroit, Michigan 1910-1913 and for Adolph Spicker in Cincinnati 1913-1916. Established independently in Norfolk, Virginia, then Baltimore, 1923-1935, and finally settled in Washington D.C. from 1935. Company known as the House of Weaver. Assisted by his son Jack, below, from 1950. Highly esteemed repairer and restorer. Also made 275 violins, 14 violas, and several cellos and double basses. Stradivari, Guarneri and personal models. Own oil varnish in golden-amber, brown, and red-gold colours. Branded: �Herman Weaver�
