By John Dilworth

VUILLAUME Jean (III) Worked circa. 1739, d.c.1759 Mirecourt France. Described by Fétis, on the information of Jean-Baptisite Vuillaume, as a pupil of Stradivari in Cremona, although plainly a fantasy based on Jean-Baptiste’s desire to establish a connection between his family and Cremona. Henley describes the few reported instruments as crude, with Brescian-style full arch and painted purfling; also six-stringed treble viols. Fait par may. / Jean Vuillaume / à Mirecourt 1738 Jean Vuillaume / de Mirecourt 1743
