VÁRADY, Gyula Born 1866 Sárosoroszi, Worked Budapest, died 1929 Dunaradvány, Komárom Hungary. Trained as an artist painter. Introduced to violin making in the workshop of G. Fiorini, Munich. Studied in Mittenwald under Tiefenbrunner. Appointed first principal of the Hungarian State Violin Making School, founded in 1922. The school closed after his death. Careful professional work on Stradivari models. Fine materials and glossy orange-red varnish. Many significant Hungarian makers trained at the school and show Várady’s influence in their own work; these include I. Pászthy, I. Orbán, A. Vajda, G. Vadon, and L. Hidy.
