Rene VANNES

VANNES, René Born 1888 Lille France, died 1956 Brussels Belgium. Musician. Studied at the the conservatoire in Liège. Later librarian of the Brussels conservatoire. Not a violin maker, but author of the comprehensive Dictionnaire Universel des Luthiers (Paris, 1932; Brussels, 1988). Building on the work of Valdrighi and others, it is the definitive work in the French language on the subject.
