VADON, Géza Born 1884 Nyüved, died 1979 Budapest Hungary. Pupil of G. Varady in his Grosswardein Violin Making School, Budapest 1923-1927. Also studied with F. Bikszegi up to 1928. Passed his master’s examination in 1936. Neat professional work on Stradivari-derived models with yellow-orange oil varnish. Around 160 violins, 35 violas, and two cellos completed. None of these were sold during the maker’s own lifetime. Author of Hangszerész (vonós) szakmai ismeret (Budapest, 1975); (Technical Information for Makers of Bowed Instruments). Instruments made after c.1830 branded beside endpin: ‘V.G.’. Labels generally manuscript, but some printed. Faciebat dr. Géza Vadon / Budapestini Anno 1946. O
