TUBBS, Edward Born 1832 London UK, died 1924 New York USA. Third son and pupil of William Tubbs, below. Established at 38 Castle Street, London 1872. Emigrated to New York 1878. Joined there by his brother John 1888. Edward wrote a robust article stating that his shop was a retailer of stringed instruments rather than a workshop, as were those of most of the other so-called ‘violin makers’ in New York at the time, who imported and relabelled French and German work. Bows made in London branded: E. TUBBS. Bows made in New York branded: E. TUBBS N.Y. [BVMA]
