TOMASCHOV, Daniel Porfirievich Born 1875 Polotkova, died 1926 Moscow Russia. Pupil of P. Chilinsky in Kiev. Worked under A. Didelot for E. Geisser in St. Petersburg from 1896. Established independently in Kiev from 1901, moving to Moscow 1906. Appointed luthier to the conservatoire and the Bolshoi Ballet. Awarded gold medal in Rome 1911. Finely made instruments with red-brown varnish. Violin and viola in the Russian State Collection, Moscow. Branded below back button: ‘D. Tomashov’.
