Frantz Born 1640 Füssen, Worked circa. 1664-1712 Friedenweiller Germany. Maker of the Alemannische School, Black Forest region. Characteristic work of that school, stylistically informed by Brescian work with much purfled decoration, particularly the use of geometrical patterns laid in the flanks of the upper and lower bouts. Long corners and long straight soundholes, usually with the wings joined to the upper and lower edges and not cut through in the usual way. Deep pegbox with small volute and open throat, undercut sharply defined beneath the first turn. Chin with sharp, deep recurve, often with the fluting stopped short. Small cello in the Claudius Museum, Copenhagen dated 1689. Pochette
