STÖSSEL, Georg Born 1867 Würzburg, d. after 1900 Cologne Germany. Apprenticed to an inventor and mechanic F. Wittstadt. Worked for D. Bittner in Vienna. Moved to Markneukirchen; then returned to work with Hamburger in Vienna. Moved again to Budapest 1889 and then spent some time in the violin centres of Italy before returning to Germany via Switzerland. Employed by Horlein in Würzburg and assisted in the manufacture of the Ritter viola. Settled finally in Cologne 1900. Fine work. Also well regarded repairer and a designer and maker of various experimental and hybrid stringed instruments. Rep. von Gg Stössel / fecit Colonia anno 1908
