SAUNDERS, Stephen Born 1840 Winterbourne, Gloucestershire, Worked circa. 1902 Twickenham, Middlesex UK. Cello and double bass player and amateur luthier. Gained access to the Stradivari belonging to Dr. Selle of Richmond, who was also a patron of John Dodd. Followed this Stradivari pattern as well as personal models. Good but not distinguished workmanship, using Whitelaw’s varnish, red-brown in colour. Branded below endpin. Manuscript label: Made by / S. Saunders / Twickenham. 1902
