RUOFF (RUEFF), Georg Born 1646, died 1725 Faulenbach, Füssen Germany. One alto viola known of distinctive model and fine workmanship. Medium high arch. Very large open soundholes with short wings, set slanting across the front. Short corners and neat purfling. Scroll rather oval in shape, with distinctive ‘v’ channel cut between the flutes of the front face of the volute. Rich red-brown varnish.
