By John Dilworth

RASTELLI, Giovanni Worked circa. 1822-1840 Genoa Italy. Rather coarse and unfinished work, typical of the Genoa school. Often plain materials. Flat narrow edges and broad purfling, meeting late in the corners. Good symmetrical outline. Arching low but box-like, the curves not well-integrated. Varnish thin and dry; red-brown. Soundholes with exaggerated lower sweep but widely spaced. Scroll somewhat in the manner of Calcanius with a short last turn.
