POGGI, Ansaldo Born 1893, Worked Villafontana di Medicina, died 1984 Bologna Italy. Trained as a violinist. After military service joined G. Fiorini in Zurich in 1921. Established in Bologna from 1923. Important and influential maker. Initially worked in Fiorini’s style, but broadened later to include most classical models with distinctly personal touches. Very fine transparent golden-orange varnish, usually with the edges wiped to a lighter shade. Always excellent materials used; much of his wood was given to him by Fiorini. Awards received in 1923, 1925, 1927, and 1929 Rome competitions. Presented a quartet at the 1937 Cremona exhibition. He taught several other makers in Bologna: G. C. G
