PLATNER, Alberto Born 1642/3, died 1713 Rome Italy. Presumed to have been of Tyrolean origin. First recorded with the Dominicus family in Rome, makers of plucked instruments. Established independently from 1674. Appointed luthier to the Palazzo Pamphilj 1701. Employed several assistants including his son Michele and G. Taningard. Chiefly involved in repairs and the making of plucked instruments, but at least one violin is recorded with his label dated 1699. [Lebet]
