OSGAR, Michael P. Born 1899 St. Cloud, Minnesota, Worked from 1965 Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. Self-taught violin and bow maker, active from 1918. Employed as a repairer by Lyon & Healy in Chicago 1919-1926. Concentrated on new work after 1923. Made plucked instruments for Slingerland, Reigel and Ludwig and stopped making violins temporarily after moving to Minneapolis in 1932. Resumed in 1965. Stradivari model. Dark stained wood with clear commercial varnish. Local woods of various species. About 26 violins and 24 bows completed. Branded: ‘M. Osgar’ [Wenberg]
