ORNATI, Giuseppe Born 1885 Albairate, Milan, died 1965 Milan Italy. Son of Carlo, an amateur luthier. Pupil of C. Moneta in Milan from 1901, worked for L. Bisiach from 1903 alongside Gaetano Sgarabotto, Georg Ullmann, and Ferdinando Garimberti. Established independently in Milan from c.1920, but continued his relationship with Bisiach, and trained his sons. Appointed luthier to to ‘La Scala’ opera house, and teacher at the Cremona International School of Violin Making 1961-1963. Awarded gold medal at Rome 1920 and 1923, and Milan 1924.
