NORRIS, William Born 1727, died 1798 Wood Norton, Norfolk UK. Rector of Wood Norton, Norfolk. Amateur maker. Early experience in Nuremberg in wood carving. Later visited Mittenwald and advised by the Klotz family. Completed 23 violins during his tenure in Wood Norton. Klotz model with own golden-brown varnish. Some said to have been purchased after his death and re-labelled as Klotz instruments. Branded ‘N’ on back button. Rev. William Norris / Made at Wood Norton, 1782
