KINBERG, Franz Born 1920 Apatin Serbia, Worked from 1949 USA. Self-taught maker active from c.1933-1937. Pupil of Lajos Kain in Zrenjanin 1937-1939. Worked in Zagreb for Franz Schneider, for Remenyi in Budapest, and for Hofman & Czerny in Vienna. Emigrated to America 1949, working for Kagan & Gaines in Chicago until 1982, when he retired and moved to Florida. Gold medal at the Hague 1949. Copies of specific master instruments. Stradivari and personal models up to 1968, thereafter making only Guarneri models. Fine workmanship on over 100 instruments including double basses. Commercial oil varnishes. Branded internally: ‘F.
