KARN, Jan Born 1919 Dluzec Poland. Violin and bow maker. Pupil of his uncle, Lorenz Karón, from 1930. Also a trained violinist, playing professionally until c.1952. Studied violin making with Etienne Vatelot in Paris 1958. Established independently in Warsaw 1959. Second prize at the Warsaw competition 1955. Emigrated to America 1968 and worked for Gorisch in Houston, Texas with whom he remained associated for the rest of his working life. Author of Know your Violin (Krakow, 1969).
