GLAESEL, Ludwig (I) Born 1842, died 1931 Markneukirchen Germany. Member of the firm ‘Glaesel and Herwig’ from 1867. Established own workshop c.1889. Several medals awarded at international exhibitions. Commercial manufacturer of instruments in graded qualities. Best work is on fine Stradivari model. Known as the leading maker of the town in this period. Created five-stringed double bass 1926; also some guitar-shaped violas.
