FISCHER, Herman Born 1881 Schönberg Germany. Originally a bow maker active from 1895. Trained with R. Fischer in Brambach. Later worked for August Rau in Markneukirchen 1898. Moved to Amsterdam 1900, employed by Van der Meer, and turned to violin making, concentrating on Cremonese models. Worked for Scheffler in Bucharest 1905 and subsequently went to Cologne, Paris, London, and St. Petersburg. Emigrated to America 1910, settling in Chicago 1914 as principal in the repair department of Lyon & Healy. Established his own workshop at 1166 Diversey Parkway in Chicago 1917, moving to 1434 North Clark Street 1927. Work on both violins and bows of the highest standard. Herman Fischer / Expert viol
