DANKWART, Baltazar (II) Born circa. 1620, died 1690 Vilnius (Wilno) Lithuania, Worked Warsaw Poland. Similar work to that of his (presumed) father, above. Instrument in Poznan collection has more prominent corners, the middle bouts more strongly curved at the ends, and slightly extended wings to the soundholes. Used ‘Bird’s-eye’ figured maple, a species that is thought to have been imported through the Baltic ports from the New World in this period. Signed directly on the wood: ‘Dankwart fecit / Baltazar 1659’
