COLETTI, Alfred Born 1878, d.c.1929 Vienna, Austria Pupil of Carl Hermann Voigt 1892-1904. High reputation as a restorer and connoisseur; known as the ‘Viennese Stradivari’. Joined the firm of Hamberger 1904, and took over workshop the following year. Made official violin maker to the Viennese court 1906, responsible for the large collection of ancient stringed instruments there. From 1929 established on the Habsburgergasse. His own original work is highly finished, using reclaimed 16th century timbers from local sites, and well covered with deep orange varnish. Alfred Coletti / K-u.
