CALOW, Thomas Born 1868 Derby, Worked Nottingham UK. Son and pupil of William Calow, below. Violin and double bass player in local theatre orchestras. Guarneri model violins and at least one double bass, with dark spirit varnish. Reputation as a fine repairer, but committed suicide, apparently by hanging himself with a double bass string in 1905 when only 37 years of age. Signed internally: ‘Thomas Calow, Nottingham’
