BROBERG, Carl J. Born 1743 Munka-Ljungby, died 1802 Göteborg Sweden. Pupil of J. Hellman in Agelholm from 1759. Apprenticed to J. Mothe from 1765. Established in Göteborg from 1769. According to guild records he made 181 violins, two violas, 32 cellos and basses, and 54 children’s instruments between 1771 and 1793. Very few survive, but are said to be of high quality, with fine amber-orange varnish. Printed and manuscript labels. Sometimes also branded. Carl Joh Broberg / Göteborg anno 1793 [Nilsson]
