BOURKE, Thomas Born 1867 Ballina, County Mayo Republic of Ireland, d. after 1924 Demonton, London UK. Active violin maker from 1896. Established professionally in Edmonton, London as a cabinet maker. Predominantly used Stradivari patterns, although some made on a Guarneri model. Golden-brown oil varnish of good texture and consistency. Made two instruments for the Wembley Exhibition 1924 made entirely from Indian woods: harewood, Himalayan pine, Bombay rosewood, and Indian ebony, with bows of Andamans black chuglam. T.
