One of the leading specialist violin shops in the North of England.
Established in the South of Manchester in 1984, Ayres Violins has developed into one of the leading specialist violin shops in the North of England - well known amongst players from beginner to professional for our high quality of service and craftsmanship. Our premises include the shop area and office, a music room and a large purpose built workshop to the rear. All work from minor repairs and adjustments, to complete restorations and the making of new instruments is carried out on site by our skilled and experienced craftsmen – Paul Ayres and Dave Slight. The dedicated music room houses a wide range of violins, violas, cellos and bows, catering from the beginner to the professional player. All have been set up to the highest possible standard in our workshop, before being put out for sale. In the shop area we hold a comprehensive stock of strings, accessories and cases to suit most budgets. Expert advice is always on hand from our friendly knowledgeable staff, who are happy to help with any queries. Paul Ayres is a long established and highly respected craftsman. His training was with the ex W.E Hill & Sons craftsmen at Ealing Strings, London, nearly 40 years ago. He then worked at the Cranston workshop, London, again with an ex-Hill trained craftsman and other high calibre restorers, before setting up his own violin workshop in Manchester in 1984, where his business has continued for 27 years. Many of Paul’s employees have benefited from his knowledge and expertise over the years, which has helped develop the workshop into a leading establishment for repairs, restorations and new made instruments.
